Working Through Grief with Essential Oils

WORKING THROUGH GRIEF WITH ESSENTIAL OILS

Grief is one of the heaviest emotions that we experience, it is experienced by all, and it is experienced in many different ways. In my practice as a Reiki Master & Spiritual and Energetic Mentor, I see many clients that are trying to work through grief from the past as well as the present. Along with Reiki and other healing modalities, I use Essential Oils as a tool to support healing.

You may be experiencing grief from a break up with a significant other or discord within your family, leaving you with a great feeling of loss. Perhaps a traumatic changing of a job or career. You may be experiencing grief during a time of collective trauma as we are experiencing now during this global pandemic with Covid-19. 

There is no set reason as to why you would be in the vibration or emotion of grief or how you feel while in that vibration, but it is important to understand that this emotion, although it doesn’t feel very good, is a necessary part of our human experience.

So how do we deal with it? This is exactly when I would talk about using Essential Oils as a tool to help us work through grief or grab an EO I have on me to help support someone’s emotional healing. Even though there are specific EO’s that are said to help with aspects of grief I want you to understand that the reasons for people experiencing grief are all different. That being said, what works for one person may not have any effect at all for someone else. This is where it is important to really sit with yourself and try to pick out the “root”of your grief. Not that you are in the vibration of grief because you lost someone but the underlying emotions OF that grief. 

As stated before if you are in grief because a loved one took their own life you of course will feel sorrow and sadness but may also feel anger and may in fact see that you need to forgive them or yourself. You may see the need to accept what has transpired and those may be at the root of your grief. 

When you think of our emotions as layers you can see that finding the next layer to address, work through, and heal is imminent to your healing. 

There is no one Essential Oil that can heal you instantly of this very low and intense emotion. Nor should you expect to have this happen overnight. Grief will be experienced how and for how long YOU need it to. But the key is finding a tool like EO’s to help guide you through the lower vibrations of this emotion. 

You can use several different EO’s everyday and I would actually suggest this method. When you notice the lower or heavier feelings within grief Grab Your EO! You have to use them if you expect them to help support you. Diffuse them, put them on your body, put them on acupressure points, breathe them in. (Please make sure you are using very high grade natural EO’s for this! I will be speaking about Young Living Essential Oils as these are the ones I have chosen to work with).

Perhaps you notice you are feeling low and maybe put some BERGAMOT or ORANGE in your diffuser. These EO’s support an uplifting  sense to the spirit. So while that is diffusing you then may want to use ACCEPTANCE over your solar plexus to help support your processing or digesting of the situation. FORGIVENESS or SURRENDER may be used over the heart. If you have taken guilt upon yourself (something that many do) using ROMAN CHAMOMILE or RELEASE could be useful to help support you in letting go of these feelings. 

There are any number of EO’s that can be used but you must listen to yourself during this time. Listen (and allow) to what it is that YOU need and are feeling. You must be able to grab your EO’s and use them. If you like using GRAPEFRUIT and it makes you feel a little bit better then grab that puppy and use it! If any of our tree oils like IDAHO GRAND FIR or NORTHERN LIGHTS BLACK SPRUCE puts a smile on your face when you smell it and evokes happy thoughts…then use those. You need to find which EO makes a change within how you are feeling. Even small shifts can be helpful when you are working on grief.

Being truthful with yourself and really examining your emotions can be an extremely effective way to help support you through your trauma and your grief. Being aware of what it is that you need and allowing yourself to obtain it may help you navigate the deep murky waters of grief and set you towards the way of healing.
